Meet Sid the Seagull. He is made of Paper Mache and is approximately 10 cm tall x 10 cm wide x 12 cm from front to back and weighs 100 grammes.
We all know Herring Gulls like chips, and Sid has taken this penchant a step further my making himself a chip butty. Sid's a very clever bird!
Sid is lovingly made out of Paper Mache clay, but his creation takes many hours to complete and involves seven processes along with drying time. Firstly I make a strong wire armature, then pad it out with cardboard and tin foil which is then covered in masking tape. The paper mache clay is applied in layers waiting for each one to dry before applying the next. This is then followed by an undercoat, then the scupture is painted with acrylic paints before a coat of varnish is applied. His chip butty is individually made and glued on afterwards.
Like all my Paper Mache Pals he is a one-off.
Sid would love to find a new and loving home. He is quite delicate, so cannot be treated as a toy and should be handled with care. He would love to be a display piece.
